Structure and Operation

The program is structured and administered by the following bodies:

Senate of the University of Thessaly

The Senate is responsible for:

  • Matters of academic, administrative, organizational, and financial nature
  • Any responsibilities related to the program that are not specifically assigned by law to other bodies

 

Postgraduate Studies Committee

Responsibilities include:

  • Submitting recommendations to the Senate regarding the establishment of new postgraduate programs or the modification of existing ones, following evaluation of proposals submitted by the Departmental Assemblies
  • Preparing a draft Regulation for second and third cycle study programs and submitting it to the Senate
  • Developing a model regulation for the operation of postgraduate programs
  • Monitoring compliance with the regulations governing postgraduate programs
  • Supervising the implementation of relevant legislation, regulations, and decisions of the governing bodies of the Higher Education Institution
  • Monitoring the implementation of procedures for exemption from tuition fees
  • Exercising any additional responsibilities defined by the Internal Regulations of the Institution

 

Program Committee

Responsibilities include:

  • Assigning teaching duties to instructors
  • Establishing committees responsible for the selection or examination of postgraduate candidates
  • Certifying the successful completion of studies in order to award the Master’s Degree
  • Submitting recommendations to the Senate regarding amendments to the program establishment decision and possible extensions of the program duration
  • Approving the annual report of the program
  • Exercising any other responsibilities provided by law

 

Coordinating Committee

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the initial annual budget
  • Preparing the financial report
  • Approving program expenditures
  • Approving the award of scholarships, whether compensatory or non-compensatory, in accordance with the program’s founding decision and the Regulation for Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies
  • Submitting recommendations to the Program Committee regarding the allocation of teaching responsibilities, including assignments to teaching categories defined in Article 83 of Law 4957/2022
  • Recommending to the Program Committee the invitation of Visiting Professors to meet the teaching needs of the program
  • Preparing proposals for modifications to the curriculum and submitting them to the Program Committee
  • Submitting recommendations to the Program Committee regarding the redistribution of courses across academic semesters and issues related to the qualitative improvement of the curriculum

 

Program Director

The Director:

  • Chairs both the Coordinating Committee and the Program Committee, prepares the agenda, and convenes their meetings
  • Submits proposals to the Program Committee regarding matters related to the organization and operation of the program
  • Recommends issues concerning the effective operation of the program to the Coordinating Committee and other governing bodies
  • Serves as the Scientific Director of the program, in accordance with Article 234 of Law 4957/2022, exercising the relevant responsibilities
  • Oversees the implementation of decisions taken by the program’s governing bodies and the Internal Regulation of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies, as well as the execution of the program budget
  • Performs any other responsibilities defined in the decision establishing the program

 

Admissions Committee

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing the submitted application documents of candidates, verifying the relevance of their undergraduate degree to the program’s academic field, and assessing their language proficiency
  • Conducting entrance examinations and interviews
  • Preparing the final ranking of candidates based on the established admission criteria and submitting the relevant recommendation to the Program Committee
