Nikolaos Gavanas is an Assistant Professor of Transportation at the Department of Spatial Planning, Urban Planning and Regional Development Engineering. He holds a PhD in Transportation Engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). He also holds a Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning and a Diploma in Civil Engineering from AUTH.
He has taught as an adjunct academic instructor at the Department of Spatial Planning and Development Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering at AUTH, as well as at the former Department of Civil Engineering (Technological Education) of the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Thessaly. He has worked as a contract Policy Officer at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, as a researcher in national and European research projects, and as a consultant in traffic studies. He has served as a member of the Sectoral Scientific Council (SSC) for Environment, Energy and Sustainable Mobility of the National Council for Research, Technology and Innovation (NCRTI) (Government Gazette 932/09-11-2020, issue for Public Bodies and Services).
His research interests focus on transportation planning, traffic engineering, sustainable mobility, and the relationship between transportation and spatial development.
