Dr. Nikolaos Iliou is a professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly (Volos, Greece). He holds a degree in civil engineering (1984) and a PhD (1990) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Dr. Iliou is a special advisor to Greece and Europe on road safety audits and road project planning and road safety issues in many administrative structures (municipalities, ministries, etc.). Dr. Iliou is a specialized independent road safety auditor (safety auditor) and monitors major national road projects. He has extensive experience in research projects as a principal investigator in collaboration with Greek and European universities and institutes. He has significant expertise in urban and regional infrastructure design and has extensive professional experience in the design and study of highways and development projects for municipalities and counties, in the fields of traffic analysis and infrastructure modeling and management. He teaches road construction and infrastructure safety management. He is a member of many professional organizations and technical committees.
